This neighborhood has quite the eclectic mix of homes, from townhomes to some of the priciest single family homes in all of South Redondo.
The housing mix here leans decidedly towards single family homes. There are the 'alphabet' streets (Avenues A-H) that run east-west at the southern end of South Redondo. And, just north of those streets, you have an area where Sapphire Street intersects with Helberta and Gertruda Avenues (sometimes referred to as the 'Beverly Hills' of South Redondo) where there are a number of truly spectacular homes, some with ocean views (see pictured, for example).
The schools here are all within the Redondo Beach Unified School District and include the award winning Alta Vista and Tulita Elementary Schools, Parras Middle School and Redondo Union High School.
Excellence in education is paramount in the Redondo Beach schools, as evidence by their scores on the Academic Performance Index (API). The 3-year average of API scores for the schools in this neighborhood is based on their 2011-2013 scores and are set forth in the chart below, along with links to the school web sites.
The API is an annual measure of a school's test score performance calculated by the California Department of Education and is a single number on a scale of 200 to 1,000 that indicates how well students in a school performed on the previous spring’s tests.*
