Neighborhood Information

This section of South Redondo is characterized mostly by townhomes (usually of the 2- or 3-on-a-lot variety), along with a number of older single family homes, although there is some new construction going on in the single family category (as pictured to the right).  However, by far, the greater portion of new construction in this area involves 2-on-a-lot detached townhomes.

The streets in this area have a unique naming system.  Starting at the northern most street (just south of 190th), all of the streets that travel east and west are named after gems. The first street is Agate, then Beryl, Carnelian, Diamond, and so on. The streets that travel north and south are also in alphabetical order, and are all women’s names in reference to the Dominguez heirs from whom the Redondo Company purchased 1,400 acres back in 1887. You’ll see “the girl” streets as you travel west from Prospect Ave: Paulina, Francisca, Gertruda, Helberta, Irena, Juanita, etc.   

School Info

Excellence in education is evidenced by the two elementary schools - Beryl Heights and Alta Vista, both K-5 grades - as well as Parras Middle School (grades 6-8) and the superb Redondo Union High School which opened in 1905.  Below you'll see their most recent test scores as well as links to their school web sites.

The 3-year average test scores for these schools based on their 2011-2013 Academic Performance Index (API) scores* are set forth in the chart below.  The API is an annual measure of a school's test score performance calculated by the California Department of Education and is a single number on a scale of 200 to 1,000 that indicates how well students in a school performed on the previous spring’s tests.
