Golden Hills Info

The Golden Hills of North Redondo Beach is the neighborhood just to the east of Hermosa Beach, with Artesia Boulevard as its northern boundary and Anita Street (190th) as its southern boundary.

Perhaps because of its central location bordering not just Hermosa Beach but parts of Manhattan Beach and South Redondo as well, the Golden Hills is often viewed as the  premiere neighborhood of North Redondo.

Most of the housing stock consists of so-called 'tall & skinnies," two-story single family homes, usually about 2,000 sqft, built on lots that are typically 25 x 100. 

Almost all of the homes have reverse floor plans with the living area, dining area, kitchen and master bedroom on the top level and the secondary bedrooms and garage on the lower level.  Because of the narrow lots, the front of the house is dominated by the garage at street level and, as a consequence, the front entry is usually on the side of the house.

The whole area has an almost San Francisco feel about it.  The side yard set backs are approximately 3 feet which often results in the neighbor's home sitting just 6 feet away.  Still, many people prefer these homes to townhomes and being in a great school district while also living close to the beach is a very appealing combination.

School Info

The Redondo Beach schools that serve families in the Golden Hills include Birney and Jefferson elementary schools, Parras and Adams middle schools and Redondo Union High School.  Jefferson Elementary is considered a big draw for this area due to its exceptional academic achievement.

The 3-year average scores for these schools based on their 2011-2013 Academic Performance Index (API) scores are set forth below.  The API is an annual measure of a school's test score performance calculated by the California Department of Education and is a single number on a scale of 200 to 1,000 that indicates how well students in a school performed on the previous spring’s tests.
