Mira Costa Info

The Mira Costa section is half of what is normally considered East Manhattan (the other half being the Manhattan Heights/Liberty Village neighborhood).  As you might have guessed, the local high school, Mira Costa High, is located within its boundaries.

This neighborhood tends to run a little more expensive than its Liberty Village cousin to the north of Manhattan Beach Boulevard  because a much greater percentage of the lots here are 50 x 150, which has tended to attract more new development and families looking for space for their backyard pools, not to mention a smattering of professional athletes who prefer the larger lots due to enhanced privacy.  In addition, the area is characterized by gently rolling hills so some homes have city lights views.

There are even a few enclaves with very substantial lots up to a half acre along Terraza Place (see photo above) and Ronda Drive, lots that are favored by celebrities and sports figures.

And then there is the distinctively-named Poets' Section, an area between Mira Costa HS and Sepulveda, so-called because of streets named for poets: Keats, Longfellow, Shelley, and Tennyson.

School Info

The main elementary school for the Mira Costa section is Pennekamp Elementary.  A few families in the northwest corner of the Mira Costa section send their kids to Meadows Elementary.  And, of course, everyone sends their older kids to the Manhattan Beach Middle School and Mira Costa High School.

The 3-year average scores for these schools based on their 2011-2013 Academic Performance Index (API) scores are set forth below.  The API is an annual measure of a school's test score performance calculated by the California Department of Education and is a single number on a scale of 200 to 1,000 that indicates how well students in a school performed on the previous spring’s tests.
