Hollywood Riviera Info

The neighborhood called Hollywood Riviera is an irregularly-shaped slice of what is technically the City of Torrance, although the majority of homes in Hollywood Riviera maintain a Redondo Beach zip code.

The neighborhood is wedged in between South Redondo Beach and Palos Verdes Estates and is bounded by Paseo de la Playa and the Pacific Ocean to the west, Newton St to the east, PCH to the north and Calle de Arboles to the south.

Hollywood Riviera came into existence in the 1920's when developer Clifford Reid envisioned the hillside area as a natural destination for the Hollywood crowd.  In 1927, he started to develop homes there with a Spanish architectural design in keeping with his original vision of a luxurious, Riviera-like oasis along the California coast.

Reid’s home, located on Monte D’Oro (see adjacent photo), was the first home built in the Riviera and is still considered magnificent for the area.  Early visitors to his home included Clark Gable, Gary Cooper, Clara Bow, Marion Davies, and John and Ethel Barrymore.

Today, the Hollywood Riviera maintains a distinct Mediterranean charm.  The housing stock is principally single family homes with a smattering of condos and townhomes along the ocean side.  A nearby shopping area of Redondo Beach, known as Riviera Village, has charming shops, restaurants, grocery stores and medical and professional services that serve the area.

School Info

Hollywood Riviera benefits from the excellent schools afforded it by the Torrance Unified School District.

The 3-year average scores for these schools based on their 2011-2013 Academic Performance Index (API) scores are set forth below.

The API is an annual measure of a school's test score performance calculated by the California Department of Education and is a single number on a scale of 200 to 1,000 that indicates how well students in a school performed on the previous spring’s tests.*
